PUROLATOR TEAMSTERS APPROVE CONTRACT WITH 16% WAGE INCREASE

About 8,800 Teamsters workers at Purolator locations across Canada have voted 92% in favour of a new five-year contract. The Teamsters Union says the deal includes wage increases of 16% over the life of the agreement.

The workers pension plan will also be increased by 22%.

The Teamsters Union says benefits have also been significantly improved and the retirement allowance has been raised by 40%!!

FedEx Package Handlers to Vote on Teamsters

If 71 package handlers at the FedEx Ground warehouse in Brockton, Massachusetts, win the union election scheduled for August 3, it will be the first time ever for package handlers at the giant non-union shipper. They’re facing a fierce anti-union campaign.

A top issue is poverty wages; all the workers are part-time, starting at $10.50 an hour with a maximum wage of $14.50 after four years. “Since there’s no seniority,” said one worker, “personal friends of managers typically get the full-time jobs or promotions.”  read more »

Pilots for Memphis-based FedEx approve new labor agreement!

FedEx and its pilots secured labor peace, at least for another year or two, with union approval of contract amendments Wednesday.

The agreement will run one year or two, at the union’s option, and provide for 3 percent annual raises, 1 percent lump sum payments up to $2,600, new safety programs and expanded foreign duty assignments.  read more »

FedEx Hourly Employees Walk Off the Job!!

FedEx Corp. (FDX) canceled several flights and delayed deliveries of thousands of packages because hourly unionized employees in Paris have been walking off the job in a labor dispute.  read more »

LABOUR BOARD HEARINGS CONTINUE

Labour Board Hearings between Teamsters Canada and FedEx Ground continue. Teamsters Canada believes it has presented a strong case against FedEx Ground relating to unfair labour practices at both the FedEx Ground Hub and Administrative center in Ontario. We are expecting the hearings to conclude next week with a decision from the Board to come soon after.

FedEx slashes profit outlook

FedEx Corp.on Monday sharply cut its quarterly profit forecast, citing higher-than-expected fuel costs and severe winter weather that disrupted delivery operations in the U.S. and Europe.  read more »

UPS (NYSE: UPS) today announced adjusted diluted earnings per share of $1.08 for the fourth quarter of 2010, a 44% improvement over the prior-year period. Global revenue grew 8.4%, generating $1.8 billion in adjusted operating profit, a 40% increase.  read more »

FEDEX CONFIRMS CLOSURE AND JOB CUTS

The company has officially confirmed that it will close its office along Enterprise Boulevard in Toledo at the end of this month. Even though FedEx (NYSE:FDX) has a significant presence in northwest Ohio, the office will be closed as a part of company’s national downsizing move.

FedEx (NYSE:FDX) has decided to cut 1700 jobs nationwide and to consolidate two of its divisions to cut long-term costs for the company.

FedEx (NYSE:FDX) shares are currently standing at 93.23.

Purolator shakeup sparks talk of closer ties with FedEx?

Purolator Courier Ltd., Canada’s largest courier company, has let go of eight top executives in a housecleaning it says will simplify its management ranks, but one that rivals suspect may herald much closer ties with U.S. package delivery giant FedEx. The management shakeup comes barely two months after Canada Post Corp., which owns 91 per cent of the Mississauga, Ont.-based company, installed veteran FedEx executive Thomas Schmitt as Purolator president and chief executive officer.  read more »

  2. There are no initiation fees when you join Teamsters Canada.
  3. You start paying union dues only when you obtain your first collective agreement.
