Uneducated
The feeling from those around work areas is that they cannot see the benefit of a union. It could be the "doubt" has set in because management has put it in their head or in my opinion, workers are very uneducated with respects to how beneficial a union really is. It is felt that the union will be the one to dictate our hours, wages, scheduling etc. when the truth is, the workers are the negotiators. I get it.... I hope you can get the message across. Other than pamphlets what else can you do to get people to listen to the truth?
Teamsters Response:
Good question.
Your 100% correct....the workers are the union.
Education and getting the truth out is difficult as the company has total access to the workers while the organizers have limited access. I think things like websites are critical as you can educate yourself in the privacy of your own home, but it still involves hitting the street to get the information in the hands of the workers.

The law protects you
The Canada Labour Code makes it crystal clear that you are protected from intimidation or worse from your employer as you consider joining a union. Here's what it has to say.
No employer or person acting on behalf of an employer shall:
(a) refuse to employ or to continue to employ or suspend, transfer, lay off or otherwise discriminate against any person with respect to employment, pay or any other term or condition of employment or intimidate, threaten or otherwise discipline any person, because the person
(i) is or proposes to become, or seeks to induce any other person to become, a member, officer or representative of a trade union or participates in the promotion, formation or administration of a trade union.
