moving between terminals

I have worked for Fedex at several locations accross Canada, several different jobs over 2 decades. How would moving to another location affect a worker if he/she transfers from a union to a non union station, or vice versa?

Teamsters Response:

Great question! Let's do the a union to union senario first.

The answer to that is…it all depends what the majority want to happen?

At UPS a transfer means you would drop to the bottom of the list for the purposes of bidding. At Purolator your full seniority is transferable anywhere across the country.

So in other words…if the FedEx workers like their system they can keep it.

However, if you transfer from a union to a non-union station you would be affected and your rights determined by whatever the company feels is appropriate. If you transfer from a non-union to a union station your seniority would be determined/affected by the collective agreement.

The Real Story about union dues

  1. The Canada Labour Code says that $5 is required for the sign-up process.
  2. There are no initiation fees when you join Teamsters Canada.
  3. You start paying union dues only when you obtain your first collective agreement.
