Question from the workgroup
A question arose during a workgroup meeting. If the union is established, what happens to the minority who voted 'no'? Are they forced to join the union if they wish to remain employed? Or is membership only required on new hires?
Teamsters Response:
If 50% plus 1 choose to form a union then everyone in that group is in the union as per the Canada Labour Code.
If 50% or under choose to form a union then nobody in the group can join.
