Wages
I was just comparing the wages of my position compared to UPS and Purolator. I have worked at Fed Ex for 20 year. I am a CTV Class 1 truck driver. I make more than the UPS or Purolator truck drivers in the same position. Also the top rate of my position is $2-3 an hour more than I make now. If the Teamsters come in, will Fed Ex lower the top rate that I could possibly make with merit increases, and the potential for me to make more also be lowered?
Teamsters Response:
20 years and not at top rate?
I think when you take away your deductions against the wage you have... then run a pension to pension comparison you will find yourself behind UPS or Purolator.
I talked to a 15 year CTV driver and I ran some numbers for him and it turned out he was around $1 per hrs behind a UPS Feeder driver. As the merit pay system seems to be all over the map it's hard to give general camparisons.
As for your suggestion that FedEx will lower the top rate....I would say it's not up to FedEx and that the pay system will be determined and voted on by the workers.

The law protects you
The Canada Labour Code makes it crystal clear that you are protected from intimidation or worse from your employer as you consider joining a union. Here's what it has to say.
No employer or person acting on behalf of an employer shall:
(a) refuse to employ or to continue to employ or suspend, transfer, lay off or otherwise discriminate against any person with respect to employment, pay or any other term or condition of employment or intimidate, threaten or otherwise discipline any person, because the person
(i) is or proposes to become, or seeks to induce any other person to become, a member, officer or representative of a trade union or participates in the promotion, formation or administration of a trade union.
