WSIB/Disability
What about WSIB/Short term disablity, do you assist employee's with that. I know a few long term couriers who work through injuries because they don't want the hassle of having to deal with management. I have seen several injured couriers who have been on modified duties & been asked to paint the railings in the warehouse, I seen one courier that was made to clean out the drawers & cuboards in the lunchroom. I was offended, and felt they were degrading this person. As far as I'm concerned this was nothing but a strong arm tatic by management to get the courier back on road. What was the employee to do stay on modified & be treated in this manner or go back to work. Hmmm what would you do.
Teamsters Response:
The answer is YES we have full-time legal advocates that specialize in WSIB/WCB appeals all over this country. It's one of the great benefits included in the Teamsters membership package.
In response to couriers doing unrelated work, I can tell you that any work that is considered "light duty" must be considered meaningful and in-scope within the collective agreement with a productive purpose. But since you don't have a collective agreement I would get your co-worker to phone your case officer ASAP to see if he/she can fix the disputed light duty issue with this person or anyone else that experiences this dilema.

Myth #4: FedEx management say’s it will close any unionized terminal
It is against the law to say that or any threat. FedEx hasn’t closed its unionized European operations nor have they eliminated their unionized pilots. So why would they shut you down? The answer is simple: “it’s only a scare tactic”.
