IS FEDEX CREATING FULL-TIME JOBS IN SOME LOCATIONS?

It has been reported that some FedEx locations across Canada are offering casuals the opportunity to become part-time employees and full-time positions are being created that will be offered to the part-timers. We are told these jobs are only open to employees who work at these locations.

Since the organizing drive started we have heard that management might look into or give back the following things……

  1. Tuition payments

  1. Give some of the pension back

  1. Increase the merit based pay structure

  1. Offer more part-time jobs to casuals

  1. Offer more full-time jobs to part-timers

  1. Better benefits with less of a deduction

WHY WON’T FEDEX GUARANTEE THESE THINGS?

WHY DID FEDEX WAIT UNTIL THEIR WORKERS STARTED ORGANIZING BEFORE MAKING PROMISES?

IS IT TOO MUCH OF A HEADACHE TO NEGOTIATE A CONTRACT WITH IT'S EMPLOYEES?

IS FEDEX DANGLING PROMISES AND CARROTS THAT CAN BE TAKEN AWAY AGAIN?

The law protects you

The Canada Labour Code makes it crystal clear that you are protected from intimidation or worse from your employer as you consider joining a union. Here's what it has to say.

No employer or person acting on behalf of an employer shall:

(a) refuse to employ or to continue to employ or suspend, transfer, lay off or otherwise discriminate against any person with respect to employment, pay or any other term or condition of employment or intimidate, threaten or otherwise discipline any person, because the person

(i) is or proposes to become, or seeks to induce any other person to become, a member, officer or representative of a trade union or participates in the promotion, formation or administration of a trade union.
