H1N1
I noticed in my station in Calgary that Fed Ex has posted on the walls information bulletins for H1N1. It mentions about proper hand washing etc. The last line says to stay home from work and also we need a doctors note to return to work if we get H1N1. When David Binks was in the station he was asked about any special exceptions to our attendance policy if we get H1N1. He said there was none. So if you follow the standard recomendation for staying home for H1N1, which is about a week, you will get penalized 3 ways. After 40 hours of sick time any future sick days, you will only get 70% of your pay. You will get a lower score on your review, and less of a raise. You might get a warning letter on file, which might affect any future promotions etc. Fed Ex tells you to stay home, but make no exceptions for contracting a potentially fatal illness.....That's just not right....So far their only answer to this is a bottle of hand sanitizer given to every driver to put in their trucks....Thanks a lot...
Teamsters Response:
Thank you for the information. All I can tell you is at Purolator and UPS(Full-Time) you have 5 personal/optional days and with a long illness you would have to claim STD. The big thing to consider is that at Purolator and UPS your contract pay increases happen regardless if you're sick or not.

Myth #2: The union will make you go on strike
The truth is... Strikes are a rare last resort in contract negotiations – more than 95% of Teamster contracts are negotiated without a strike. A strike will only happen when a majority of workers vote to call one. Read more >
