Union From France Issues Letter of Support to Teamsters Canada

To: Teamsters Canada,
Robert Bouvier, President

Dear President:

The FNST CGT was informed that FEDEX workers have joined Teamsters Canada. We are very pleased with their decision in more than one respect. Indeed, the choice made by these workers demonstrates that the values defended by Teamsters Canada meet the aspirations of transportation workers on your side of the Atlantic.

Of course, you are still awaiting certification but we are confident that your success will generate future successes. The “battle” won against FEDEX, a multinational that goes against the law and those who try to apply it, that no longer has the slightest respect for the dignity of workers, men and women who nevertheless ensure corporate growth, in terms of both notoriety and financial results that benefit solely to its shareholders.

For upcoming battles against this corporation and many others still, we will support you to the highest extent possible. This union victory must be only the beginning of the development of your future actions and thus help Canadian transportation workers to prosper.

Once again, congratulations to my brothers and sisters, you and your teams as well as the workers who have chosen you to defend their rights, dignity and social gains.

Fraternally yours,

Patrick Vancraeyenest
Member of the Federal Bureau
Responsible for the international group

Paul Fournier
Secretary General
Fédération Nationale des Syndicats de Transports CGT

The Real Story about union dues

  1. The Canada Labour Code says that $5 is required for the sign-up process.
  2. There are no initiation fees when you join Teamsters Canada.
  3. You start paying union dues only when you obtain your first collective agreement.
