Now that Teamsters Canada is publicly responding to requests from FedEx workers about unionization, the myth campaign from management is likely to get under way soon. Head office could spend millions of dollars trying to keep you from even showing any interest in joining a union - something you're allowed to do under the laws of Canada.

What can you expect from management? Well, they will likely bring in plenty of lawyers and other corporate suits - managers who are experienced in union-busting tactics, legal or otherwise. And the myths will start.

Casual workers

How would joining the Teamsters affect casual workers with respect to pay, benefits, promotions, etc? Currently, casual couriers are earning roughly $17/hour and package handlers make around $12.

By joining the Teamsters you will gain the right to bargain improvments to your current status.

Myth #2: The union will make you go on strike

The truth is... Strikes are a rare last resort in contract negotiations – more than 95% of Teamster contracts are negotiated without a strike.  A strike will only happen when a majority of workers vote to call one. Read more >
