Purolator new contract?

I hear Teamsters at Purolator got a new contract. Any details?

Teamsters Canada Response:

About 8,800 Teamsters workers at Purolator locations across Canada have voted 92% in favour of a new five-year contract. The Teamsters Union says the deal includes wage increases of 16% over the life of the agreement.

The workers pension plan will also be increased by 22%.

The Teamsters Union says benefits have also been significantly improved and the retirement allowance has been raised by 40%!!

New compensation package

Fed Ex announced the new compensation package for FY12. They have basically said screw you long time employee. I have 21 years of service, the maximum raise I can get with an almost perfect review score is 2%. They took away the long term service raise that they just began a couple of years ago also. Last year I got 2% for long term service and 3.75% at my review. That was 5.75% last year. I'm sure the only reason Fed Ex gave decent raises last year was because Teamsters was breathing down their necks.  read more »

Purolator

From what i have read, it looks like FedEx is going to take over all or part of Purolator. And we all know how FedEx feels about unions. FedEx has already installed one of their own as President of Purolator. What is FedEx up to?

Teamsters Canada Response:

I'm not sure what the future holds, but I can tell you if a merger happens it will be the Labour Board and not FedEx who will determine the workers status.

The people company

I have been informed from a very reliable source that Fedex routinely uses the services of an outside private security company to spy on its couriers on the road. Furthermore, ever since the teamsters have made a push towards fedex, management has become so paranoid that it also goes through all dispatch messages sent between couriers on a weekly basis. My source has also told me that all managers have received special training on such things as, how to eavesdrop on its workers and how to spot possible pro union workers.  read more »

Rusty nail

Yesterday I went for a walk and happened upon an old dog sitting on a porch with its master. The dog was in some kind of obvious pain as it was making some kind of low pitched howling sounds. I asked the owner what was wrong with his dog? He said that "buster" was sitting on an old rusty nail. I asked,"Why doesn't buster get up and off the nail?" The owner said,"Ah He's just to lazy." And that for me is the perfect example of a Fedex worker.  read more »

percentage needed to unionize

What percentage of a terminal is needed to unionize and how do you prove you have that without disclosing the names of those who have signed their cards?

Teamsters Canada Response:

To obtain an automatic certification you need 50% plus 1 of the unit to sign a card. The cards are submitted confidentially to the Labour Board who compares the cards with an over-all company employee list. The cards are never shown to the company.

Fedex Office/Kinkos

I would like to inform Teamsters and all Fedex workers the following. I know first hand that at Fedex office/ kinkos the Front counter staff or CSR who deal with fedex products doing the same job that Fedex front counter staff or CSR does makes approx 12.50 hr after 3 yrs. While Fedex front counter makes much more. This if any reason is why we should vote union wake up perhaps your next.

Teamsters Canada Response:

Thank you for your post!

out of steam

Looks like the Teamsters campaign has run out of steam. It has been over a year and I don't see any results here in Alberta. Have you given up?

Teamsters Canada Response:

I can't give you details on the campaign. I can tell you that the organizing drive continues.

David Binks

It seems David Binks is no longer with Fedex Canada. Word is His contract expired and got sent back to Europe. Me thinks otherwise.I guess He couldn't Handel the teamsters and is being punished cause of the Barrie station getting unionized. I predict many more in management will get the axe.

Teamsters Canada Response:

I have not heard anything regarding David Binks. Thank you for your post.

The Real Story about union dues

  1. The Canada Labour Code says that $5 is required for the sign-up process.
  2. There are no initiation fees when you join Teamsters Canada.
  3. You start paying union dues only when you obtain your first collective agreement.
